A annual favourite, join us in 2025 on an exciting tour of the Outer Hebrides. Demand is high for this tour so if you want to express interest and pre-book please drop me a line.
Machair teeming with breeding waders, Corncrake rasping from the yellow Iris beds, Short-eared Owls and Hen Harriers hunting along the roadsides and Red-necked Phalarope at roadside pools. This has to one of the best places in the UK to see and photograph these species, especially Short-eared Owls. Both White-tailed and Golden Eagles breed on the islands as well as numerous Hen Harrier on the moorlands. It really is a wildlife spectacle and landscape like no other in Britain. The tour includes a 2 hour boat trip around the secluded and remote coast of North Uist to view nesting White-tailed Eagles, Otter, Divers, Skuas, Black Guillemot and a chance of cetaceans.
The tour will start on Friday overnight at the Grant Arms Hotel, heading to North Uist on Saturday via Skye. We stay for five nights on South Uist at a wonderful family run hotel offering an excellent selection of Scottish food a la carte.
Our days will be spent exploring North Uist, Benbecula and South Uist, including the famous RSPB reserve of Balranald for Corncrakes.
What's included in the cost :
2 nights at the Grant Arms Hotel Grantown on Spey.
5 nights at The Orasay Inn, South Uist. A small family run and long established Hotel.
All travel from Grantown and back including ferry crossing.
Dinner Bed & Breakfast + packed lunch. (Evening meal A la Carte, no set menu!!). Seafood highly recommended !

John lives locally and has been working as a Bird & Wildlife Guide throughout the Highlands and Islands since for 20 years, previously working for RSPB Scotland as an assistant warden and as a guide for two of Scotland's leading Wildlife Tour Companies. He now runs Highland Nature, and is Wildlife Guide for the BWWC at the Grant Arms Hotel. In any spare time John also works as a freelance environmental consultant surveying upland birds for renewable energy developments as well as helping manage the local online bird news grapevines.
