Join us at Highland's "Wildlife Hotel", The Grant Arms for a spectacular spring birding four night break. As well as three full days fully guided birding including transport you also have exclusive use of all the facilities provided by the Birdwatching & Wildlife Club (BWWC) during your stay.
This is the peak week for spring migration in the north of Scotland with the final push of our summer visitors arriving as well as the greatest chance of an unexpected rarity turning up. The forests will be alive with the song of Willow Warbler and Tree Pipit, the lochs with the piping calls of Common Sandpiper and the Moors full of the sounds of breeding waders. We visit a wealth of habitats from mountain to coast with an expected species list of 100+ birds.
Monday 26th : Arrival. We meet up for an evening introduction at the hotel before dinner.
Tuesday 27th : Our first day is spent locally in and around Strathspey, visiting the forests, lochs and moors for a wealth of species and Scottish specialities. Crested Tit, Crossbill, summer plumaged Black & Red Throated Divers as well as the stunning Slavonian Grebe will be amongst our targets. On the moors Red Grouse strut by the roadside and it's a chance to see waders such as Curlew and Golden Plover in their breeding habit.
Wednesday 28th : We head off to the famous Findhorn Valley in search of Golden Eagle, with a good chance of White-tailed Eagle too as well many other raptors this area is so well known for. The afternoon is spent on the Black Isle and the inner Moray Firth where we have a chance of some lingering wintering sea duck and if weather conditions are favourable some seabird passage. All four Skuas are often seen off Chanonry point at this time of year as well as the famous population of Bottle-nosed Dolphins.
Thursday 29th : A superb day's birding on the Moray Firth with it's sweeping beaches and secluded harbours, our best chance of catching up with any unusual migrants as well as waders still on their way north. Get to grips with Tern ID at Spey Bay with Arctic, Common, Sandwich and Little all being present as well as another chance to see Dolphins.
