Join us at Highland's "Wildlife Hotel", The Grant Arms for a spectacular three night mid-week Break .As well as two days fully guided birding, you also have exclusive use of all the facilities provided by the Birdwatching & Wildlife Club (BWWC) during your stay including a Wildlife Film showing most evenings and any scheduled talks. You may even wish to add on extra nights either side to do your own thing, please enquire when booking.
Day 1: Arrival : We meet up for an evening introduction before dinnner.
Day 2: Forest, Lochs & Uplands : We spend the day exploring the local habitats around Strathspey to catch up with specialities including Eagles, Crested Tit, Crossbills as well as Divers and Slavonian Grebes depending on season. In autumn/winter Mountain Hare will be in their white coats and Crested Tits become much easier to see and photograph at local feeding stations. We will also explore the famous Findhorn Valley, one of Scotland's best known spots for raptors, with both White-tailed and Golden Eagle regularly seen as well as Red Deer, Mountain Hare and Wild Goats.
Day 3: The Moray Firth : A wonderful day out exploring coastal habitat of the Moray Firth for Waders, Sea-birds and Dolphins. From sweeping beachs, secluded harbours, tidal mudlfats and rocky shorelines the habitats are diverse and it's always the day with the highest bird list, 60+ is quite possible!
From late autumn to spring large rafts of sea-duck congregate in the Firth and during migration there are many wader hot spots for us to check too. A chance to get to grips on identification skills of a wide variety of birds along one of the most beautiful coastlines in Britain.
On these shorter breaks, emphasis is put on getting to grips with identification of the many species we will encounter, including song and calls. A great opportunity to fine tune your birding skills for the future, and see some spectacular scenery as well. There is minimal walking involved with most spots within a short distance of parking. On colder days we always offer a chance of a warm up in one of the many local Cafes for either lunch or just a quick coffee, which ever you prefer. Of course, we also provide hot drinks and plenty of biscuits throughout the day too!!!
Please note the exact itinerary is for guidance only and may be subject to change depending on weather or road conditions.
