Well the trees are beginning to bud here in the Highlands at last, though the snows still remain on the high tops of the Cairngorms, where it was still snowing even today!
Willow Warblers are beginning to arrive as are Tree Pipits so the forests are starting to liven at last. Black Grouse are showing fabulously at a local lek, with eight birds counted there the other morning.
Ospreys a busy setting on the nests, fighting it out between resident pairs and intruding birds looking for a new mate or nest site.
Ring Ouzel are also being seen at regular sites, singing away from the tops of the leafless trees as the first Wheatears hop from rock to rock below.
On the hill Ptarmigan are beginning to change, despite little chance of being able to walk far up there yet they are showing very well, as are Snow Bunting.
